Driving into Clarksdale

Driving into Clarksdale, 1999, was a collaboration with Carmel Buckley commemorating our visit to the Blues Museum in Clarksdale, Mississippi, in 1994. At that time it was housed in the local library in winning ad hoc style. You could select any record on display and listen to it on the turntable they provided. One of B.B. King’s guitars was on display in a glass case as the main prize in the raffle to raise money for the move to a new, fancier, venue.

The cassette tape recorder we used was a period player, perhaps from the early 1970s. As in the Clarksdale library, visitors were invited to play a selection of Delta Blues tracks recorded on 5 cassettes.
